Album Review: Into It. Over It. - Proper

Into It. Over It’s Evan Weiss seems to be a busy man. After undergoing two projects; 52 Weeks, a project which saw Weiss write a new song every week for a year, and thenTwelve Towns, a series of songs influenced and based by Weiss’ travels, and released through numerous split ep’s. Add to that last years split record with Koji, and you should understand how busy and devoted Weiss is. With such a heavy output, you would he’d want to take a break but as dedicated as ever, Weiss has gone back into the studio to record his first full-length, which is coincidentally titled Proper.

Album Review: Into It. Over It. - Twelve Towns

Over the past 18 months, the output from Chicago’s Evan Thomas Weiss has been more than overwhelming. His Twelve Towns collection was originally released through numerous splits with  the likes of Such Gold, Everything Everywhere and Empire! Empire! (I Was A Lonely Estate). As a result of these splits receiving such good feedback, Weiss has decided to compile the tracks together for the complete release.

Like his previous LP, 52 Weeks, Twelve Towns sensibly shows Weiss variation in both terms of style and song-writing; “Nashville, TN” is a short and delicate acoustic number that shows Weiss’ ability to produce an engaging and intimate moment. Whereas “Orlando, FL” is a sturdy indie rock track.

This split is the final release in Into It. Over It.’s ‘Tweleve Towns’series and for some, a split release with Rochester, NY’s Such Gold sounds pretty special. Both Into It. Over It. (aka Evan Weiss) and Such Gold have been gathering a strong following on both sides of the Atlantic, so expectations are considerably high.

Weiss’ first track, ‘Washington, DC’ a solid blast of rock that is similar to his other band, Stay Ahead of the Weather with a decent structure and an appreciative melody that Weiss pulls off well. Whereas ‘Portland, OR’ is the more favorable offering with its atmospheric tone and overall mellow approach that gives Weiss the space needed to let his lyrics breathe.
