Interview: A Loss For Words, All Or Nothing & LYU

Posted on AlterThePress.com on Sunday February 28th 2010.

Next week, A Loss For Words head over to the UK for their first tour on these shores. Along with the Boston band will be All or Nothing and LYU. The two week tour will see the band playing all over the country, including shows in London, Kingston, Nottingham, Birmingham, Glasgow and many more.

To get fans ready for this triple pop-punk powerhouse of a tour, we recently asked all three bands about the tour and what we can expect from this tour.

A Loss For Words

ATP: Who are you and what is your role in A Loss For Words?
ALFW: What’s goin on, I’m Mike and I play bass and sing backing vocals.

ATP: Tell us a bit about what A Loss For Words for those who havn’t heard you before?
ALFW: Well I’d say we’re a more aggressive sounding pop-punk band, who’ve been around for damn close to ten years now. I’d say somewhere in the vein of The Movielife, New Found Glory and Alkaline Trio. We’re a pretty ugly group of dudes, and we’re damn proud of it.

ATP: So you’re about to head to the UK. Is this your first time here?
ALFW: It’s everyone’s first time out there except for Marc; he spent a week in London after high school. We’re all stoked as hell to get out there! Hopefully we can find some spare time to go sightseeing.

Album Review: All Or Nothing/Chaos Days - Split EP

Posted on AlterThePress.com in November 2009

All Or Nothing follow up to the ridiculously good split with The Wonder Years, with another split EP. This time they’re teaming up with British label mates Chaos Days.

All Or Nothing kick off proceedings with the always good edgy, pop-punk the band do so well. ‘Hate Being The Dip Guy’ is instantly enjoyable and one of the bands funnest tracks to date. ‘Don’t Do This’ shows the bands ability to be consistent but at the same time be slightly heavy, as a driving bass and smashing drums dominate.

Brighton’s Chaos Days go down the more melodic route, as ‘You And I’ is a catchy and favourable track that you will get addicted to quickly. Whereas ‘At Heaven’s Gates’ shows the bands more fierce and slightly faster sound, which is impressive and is complimented by the calm, melodic vocals.

All Aboard Records are on to a good thing as this split EP shows several things. The first is that British pop-punk music is as good and strong as it has ever been. The second being both All Or Nothing and Chaos Days, know how to write a good song that you will listen to again and again. If you’re not a fan of either band already, this is definitely a worthwhile way of discovering 2 of the best upcoming British bands right now. I will definitely be keeping in an ear out for both bands in 2010.

4.5/5

‘Split EP’ by All Or Nothing/Chaos Days is released on Decemebr 7th on All Aboard Records.

Feature: On Our Stereo: The Wonder Years/All Or Nothing - Distances

(From AlterThePress.com 2nd June 2009)

This week’s On Our Stereo features not one, but two bands; Philadelphia’s The Wonder Years and Birmingham’s All or Nothing. Earlier this year both bands got together, and released a split 7” on No Sleep Records called ‘Distances’.

The Wonder Years contribute two tracks filled with pop-punk brilliance with a hardcore edge. Whilst All or Nothing’s 3 tracks fuse the same elements and at the same high standard; they are fast, fun and fierce.

Both bands are a reminder of why I fell in love with pop-punk in the first place and also why the so-called “neon” pop-punk scene has become generic, predictable and saturated, where it becomes difficult defining one band from the next. ‘Distances’ showcases two bands who don’t give a fuck about how their hair look or what myspace-based clothing brand they wear. Instead All or Nothing and The Wonder Years get down to business, whilst still having fun doing what they do.

For me personally, the split was a great way to be introduced to both bands and left me wanting more. Thankfully I won’t have to wait long. The Wonder Years are currently writing a new record, whilst All Or Nothing are releasing a split EP with Chaos Days on All Aboard Records in the near future.

‘Distances’ by The Wonder Years/All Or Nothing is available now through No Sleep Records via iTunes and 7”.
