Album Review: Such Gold/A Loss For Words - Split 7”

Posted on Under The Gun Review on Monday, November 14th 2011.

The thought of two of the best up and coming Pop Punks releasing a split 7-inch with two popular and emerging DIY labels, sounds incredibly exciting. The two bands in question are Rochester, New York’s Such Gold and Boston, Massachusetts’ A Loss For Words. Both are bands that have slowly and firmly been gathering on both sides of the Atlantic for the best part of 18 months.

The four-track split is jointly being released by two of the most well-respected DIY labels at the moment. No Sleep Records is home to the likes of Into It. Over It., Koji, Aficionado, Santah, Touché Amore and more. Whilst Mightier Than Sword Records is better known for re-pressing releases from Blink-182, The Ataris and The Movielife, but it’s roster does have notable name such as Bayonet, Last Call and So Many Ways.

Album Review: A Loss For Words - No Sanctuary

Posted on UnderTheGunReview.net on October 27th, 2011.

It has probably been said time and time again but 2011 has been the glorious return of Pop Punk. With notable releases from familiar bands like New Found Glory, Set Your Goals, Man Overboard, Tranist, This Time Next Year, The Wonder Years and to a lesser extent, Blink-182. On top of that, there has been numerous promising releases from up and coming bands like Turnover, Citizen, Time Spent, Handguns and Last Call.

So with the genre’s popularity being at it’s highest in some years, where does Boston’s A Loss For Words fit into the scheme of things? On face value No Sanctuary, the bands sophomore full-length, ticks all the right Pop Punk boxes but doesn’t quite have the immediate impact some had hoped for.

Interview: A Loss For Words

Posted on AlterThePress.com in February 2011.

Since releasing their collection of Motown covers last year, Abington, Massachusetts’ A Loss For Words have toured with the likes of The Wonder Years, The Ghost Inside, Evergreen Terrace, Such Gold, Our Time Down Here and most recently Streetlight Manifesto. In addition the band announced they signed a deal with Rise Records/Velocity Records with plans to release a new full-length this September.

Alter The Press! caught up with guitarist Marc Dangora to discuss the bands move to Rise Records/Velocity, what we can expect from the new album and their other future plans.

Alter The Press: How did the deal with Rise Records/Velocity Records come about?
A Loss For Words: In 2009 we self released our first full-length, The Kids Can’t Lose. Our band is proud of where that CD has taken us, but there was only so much we could do with it since we put it out on our own. Since that release we had been looking for the right label to support us. We met Dave from Velocity on tour in Los Angeles. He was really cool, and we kept in touch. We eventually told him about our search for a label to put out our next CD. He was interested. He floated the idea to Craig from Rise, and we got the deal done. Every one at Rise/Velocity has been so supportive and we can’t wait to get this record out.

Album Review: A Loss For Words - Motown Classics

Posted on AlterThePress.com in May 2010

With ‘Motown Classics’ I could write two different reviews. One being that it’s a pretty predictable and the whole concept quickly gets boring. Alternatively I could call it a very fun and enjoyable record that shouldn’t be taken serious at all. I think I’ll go with the latter.

Yes A Loss For Words aren’t doing anything revolutionary; pop-punk covers of well known songs have been done endlessly. However their twist on these classics are pulled off brilliantly. Lionel Richie, Jackson 5, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, The Temptations and a load more of familiar Motown names are covered here, each done by A Loss For Words in a unique fashion.

Interview: A Loss For Words, All Or Nothing & LYU

Posted on AlterThePress.com on Sunday February 28th 2010.

Next week, A Loss For Words head over to the UK for their first tour on these shores. Along with the Boston band will be All or Nothing and LYU. The two week tour will see the band playing all over the country, including shows in London, Kingston, Nottingham, Birmingham, Glasgow and many more.

To get fans ready for this triple pop-punk powerhouse of a tour, we recently asked all three bands about the tour and what we can expect from this tour.

A Loss For Words

ATP: Who are you and what is your role in A Loss For Words?
ALFW: What’s goin on, I’m Mike and I play bass and sing backing vocals.

ATP: Tell us a bit about what A Loss For Words for those who havn’t heard you before?
ALFW: Well I’d say we’re a more aggressive sounding pop-punk band, who’ve been around for damn close to ten years now. I’d say somewhere in the vein of The Movielife, New Found Glory and Alkaline Trio. We’re a pretty ugly group of dudes, and we’re damn proud of it.

ATP: So you’re about to head to the UK. Is this your first time here?
ALFW: It’s everyone’s first time out there except for Marc; he spent a week in London after high school. We’re all stoked as hell to get out there! Hopefully we can find some spare time to go sightseeing.
